John Maio Photography Presents:Actor's Reel Production and Video Audition ServiceClient's know us for our high quality/high value actor's headshots. Today, professional headshots may not be enough. Professionally produced Video Auditions and Actors Reels are what it takes to - "Get The Edge That Wins The Role" Casting Directors and Agents are increasingly asking for video auditions to select talent before the production moves in to New Mexico for shooting. We produce High Definition video auditions and deliver them directly to the casting agents, or through your talent agency using the web. Your audition can be view directly a password protected (if necessary) video streaming site (Vimeo), or the completed video (up to 2 GB in size) can be sent via our YouSendIt.com account. The casting agents can be anywhere in the world where broad-band internet access exists; L.A., New York, London, etc. We have already established a high rate of success resulting in roles won by local talent and talent agencies. We'll be glad to discuss recent jobs won by New Mexico talent for major feature films being shot in New Mexico and elsewhere. We can produce the auditions in our own studios or at your Talent Agency location. We can also arrange for real-time video auditions at a location (including our studio) where access to high rate broadband is available. Give us a call at (505) 681-8035 to discuss the details. Actor's Reels are usually made up of short clips of your performance in one or more productions. They should be professionaly edited, including picture and sound quality adjustments, with unobtrusive titles that identify you, the production name and the character you are playing. The reel also needs to include contact titles at the end so you can be reached by casting. A finished reel, on average, should be 2 minutes or less in length. The source material could be DVD's (best) or VHS tape. Conversion of other media, such as mini-DV tape or web-hosted movies, for ingesting into our editing computers will depend on accesability (i.e. most web movies are copy protected). Obtaining clearance to use the clips in your reel is your responsibility.
Reels made using from actual performances in released movies, TV spots, or Theater Production Videos are most effective, but for a starting actor, an introduction reel which is basically describing yourself and your training and experience, followed by acting out a memorized dialog of 1 or 2 characters, is often better than no reel at all.
Reels can be produced for web-hosting, DVD, and even made compatible with your iPhone® or similar mobile device. Call us for more details.
This is a sample of a recent video audition:
Audition for PSA gig, June, 2010. Ryan Montenerey got the Gig based on this video audition! To make your reel, there are some things you need to do, and some that we will do: Your stuff: Gather your source material and watch it a few times. The first clip in your reel should be the screen segment which best shows your talent with high quality video and audio. Be discriminating - use only your best stuff! Make sure you write down the time in and time out of the clips you want, the name of the production, and your character's name. We accept source material from DVD's Min-DV tape and VHS tape for conversion into a format which can be used in Final Cut. It is your responsibility to get clearance to use this material. You'll be required to sign an agreement which indemnifies us from any action arising from the use of copyrighted material. Normally, an email request to the production company specifying the scene and how it will be used will bring results. HINT: It's much easier to ask the Line Producer for this during filming! Its also easier if you have a good part in a local independent production.
Once you have everything, contact us.
Our stuff: Producing a good reel is much more complex than you might imagine. We have all the expensive pro-level hardware and software to do it, and the editing talent to create a fast paced, exciting, yet fully expositional reel. We include an on-line preview before the Final Cut, so to speak, is made so you'll know what you are getting.
You will receive the following items when our work is complete:
We will retain your Final Cut® edit in our archives if you want to change your reel. Changes will be billed at our hourly rate. Our objective is to price for the New Mexico market, not L. A. or New York! Hourly rate for new Reel production from your source material is $35.00. (2 hour minimum). Includes finished DVD and CD Call us if you need to create original material. We can work with your cinematographer or do it in our studio. Talk with your agent about the best content for your talent set.
